Dorothy Diekmann, 95, Hastings

Dorothy Diekmann, age 95, formerly of Owatonna, died Sunday, September 17, 2023, at Benedictine Living Community-Regina, Hastings, MN. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 11:00 AM Thursday, September 21, 2023, with Msgr. Thomas Cook presiding. Friends may greet the family one-hour prior to the Mass at the church. Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary will be recited at 10:30 AM at the church. Interment will follow services at Sacred Heart Cemetery.
Dorothy was born July 11, 1928, in Wilmont, MN, the daughter of Henry and Magdaline (Kremer) Fuerstenberg. She attended St. Kilian’s Catholic School in Wilmont Township. She was united in marriage to Lawrence Diekmann at St. Kilian Catholic Church on June 4, 1947.
They farmed in Nobles County where Dorothy was a homemaker, raising their two children.
In 1967, the couple moved to Owatonna and Dorothy began working at Truth Hardware. She continued until her retirement in 1992.
Dorothy enjoyed spending time with her family, crocheting, Hardanger embroidery, playing cards, cooking, and hosting friends and family. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Women’s Council, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Catholic Aid Society. Dorothy volunteered at church, leading the rosary, and as a member of the funeral lunch committee.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter Cathy “Tootie” Diekmann of Hastings, grandchildren Sol Renee Diekmann, Jasha Diekmann-Smith-Murphy, and Brandon Diekmann; three great-grandchildren Matthew, Blake, and Max; and brother Melvin (Agatha) Fuerstenberg.
She was preceded in death by husband Lawrence, son David, son-in-law Thom Smith, sister Arneta Middendorf, and brother Ralph.
Memorials are preferred to Sacred Heart Catholic Church, St. Mary’s School, or donor’s choice.
